Nov 3: Al Jood Natural Resources and Oman Gypsum Industries entered into a joint venture to mine and export natural gypsum from Oman. Port of Salalah successfully exported 67,000 tonnes of natural gypsum using a post panamax vessel MV Sri Prem Poorva which called Port of Salalah recently.
The PoS signed a long-term contract with the end users in the Indian sub-continent till December 2016 to supply 50,000 tonnes (using supramax vessel) every month. This JV will contribute a little bit to the nation’s economy in/through the non-oil exports from the Sultanate. Shiakh Ali bin Suhail al Mashani, Chairman of Oman Gypsum Industries said: “WE would like to place on record our sincere appreciation to the Public Authority of Mining and Port of Salalah for their continuous support and encouraging Omani companies to invest in the mining sector.”
Mohammed Rizwan, General Manager of Al Jood Minerals thanked the PoS authorities and its commercial and operations team for their cooperation in completing the shipment in a smooth way and said, “I would also thank team Al Jood for hard work in executing this shipment.”
Ahmed Ali Akaak, PoS Deputy Chief Executive, welcomed the first vessel for the newly launched joint venture firm. “We will consistently strive to provide full support to achieve maximum productivity for our valued customers,” he said.
